photojojo:

The mind-boggling images above were captured by David Oliete at the 2012 Human Tower Competition held in Tarragona, Spain.

Out of context, they’re kind of mysterious and moving, right?

This is amazing—what a cool gathering and what great pictures. There’s video on Huffington Post here.

A few days ago, the O.A.R. Northwest boat capsized a meager 843 miles short of their ocean crossing. All four of the crew are safe, but their ocean crossing has come to an abrupt end. There is a gripping account of the capsize here.
I photographed these guys for Outside in September, before they cast off on their Transatlantic crossing. I’m glad they are all safe—here’s to four true adventurers.

Also on newstands this month is a story I shot for Maxim on a Veteran’s MMA Fight Club in San Diego. Todd Vance, the asskicker above, started Pugilistic Offensive Warrior Tactics as a way for veterans suffering from PTSD to connect with each other and relieve some aggression in a controlled way. This was a super fun shoot, and there are a lot of great outtakes which will make their way to the tumblr eventually.
Check out the full article in the April issue of Maxim.

Another shot of Rachel Graham for Men’s Journal. She’s 6’2”, beautiful, and can beat any story you might throw at her—I heard about Andean plane crashes, her international childhood, and death threats from Guatemalan fishermen to name (inaccurately paraphrase?) a few. She might just be the most interesting (wo)man in the world.

This January, Men’s Journal sent me down to Belize to photograph conservationist Rachel Graham and her Belize Shark Project. I spent five days on a boat with her as she and her crew fished for sharks and tagged them. It was a dream job for me, although not without its challenges. Here is Rachel wrestling a seven-foot-long Bull Shark while trying to install a satellite tag on its dorsal fin. Somehow I was straddling the side of the boat, camera in one hand and flash in the other, and leaning WAY out to shoot this.
Check out her incredible story here.

iheartlosangeles:

I am so excited that the Caroll Taveras Photo Studio, an official project of MOPLA is launching this week! The Lucie Foundation is bringing out this talented Brooklyn based photographer to do the 4th installment of her project here in Los Angeles. For 2 weeks, Caroll will be making portraits with color, 4x5 film of anyone who wants to participate at Space 15 Twenty in Hollywood. With a lot of hard work and perseverence, we were about to get support for this project from Calumet, Fuji, Contact, Impossible Project, A&I, Moo and many more. We will be posting portraits daily on: http://www.thephotostudio.org/.
