Recently, content has made a comeback and been deemed worth paying for again. But no one talks about “selling out” anymore, since it’s obviously the primary, unstated goal of every venture. And even though the billionaire gurus still speak in reverent tones about changing the world, most people share the same cynical lens we embraced back in 1995. It’s clear now that today’s most exciting, innovative, friendly-seeming tech companies are tomorrow’s megacorporations, prone to gobbling up all originality and innovation and spewing out something far more predictable and disappointing. Even Ted Talks now feel about as inspiring and unique as infomercials. No matter how great your idea might be, your trajectory is clear: One minute you’re happily hiding out on Hoth, and the next minute you’re toiling away on the Death Star. Another one from the 2012 archives, while I was living on an Alp and shooting a story on traditional Swiss farming culture. One of the interesting things about Switzerland is how the modern world blends with traditional ways of life. This worker was up on the Alp improving a small hydroelectric installation.
That isn’t moiré in the sky…..just very moiré-esque clouds.

I’m deep in the archives tonight. I shot this while I was working on my project on Arcosanti in 2012.

I’m very excited to have worked with artist Elyse Graham on her new lookbook. This project was a bit out of the ordinary for me, but I love delving into still life every now and again, and it was so much fun collaborating with Elyse. We worked together on all the aspects of the production, from the shoot, to the design, to the printing. Here are a few of my favorite shots.

Outtakes from the Oregon Freeze Dry Factory, shot for Outside last year. These guys work their shifts inside a -20 degree freezer, which is where I photographed them (wearing nothing but a t-shirt and lab coat).

Last month I shot Nicolas Marsch (left) for Bloomberg Businessweek, for a story about a real estate deal gone bad and the epic legal battle that followed. You can read the story here.
